CRISIS UPDATE IN ICAO: Airport discrimination needs to be addressed

BY FABIANA CHAVEZ, EL PAIS

After an unmoderated caucus to merge working papers into draft resolutions, delegates were asked to take a sit a listen to the following witness that was about to enter the conference.

Sir excuse me just a random baggage check -“Yeah, pretty random [shows face]”

The delegates attending the Economic Social Council’s International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) witnessed a statement made by a minority group person about the discriminatory treatment this person’s family received in airports.

After the Crisis Update finished, delegates started discussing the specific plans that need to be established in the Draft Resolution to cover the update. The delegation from South Africa mentioned that ethnic and racial profiling will not be tolerated. We hope that the best proposed solutions are being established in the committee so the resolutions include with specific measures to abolish or reduce discrimination in the long term.
